Ireland

What to Expect

Credit Cards

Ireland is split up into Northern Ireland and Ireland. Northern Ireland is part of the United Kingdom and Ireland is apart of the European Union.

Voltage

The main languages spoken in Ireland are Gallic and English

Currency

The currency in Ireland is the Euro and the currecny in Northern Ireland is the British Pound. Click here for current exchange rates.

Credit Cards

Almost everywhere Ireland takes major credit cards and there are plenty of ATMs in every city and small town.

Voltage

The standard voltage in Ireland is 230 V, the frequency is 50 Hz, and the plug type is G. You cannot use your electric appliances in Ireland without a voltage converter because the standard voltage in Ireland (230 V) is higher than in the US (120 V).

Driving

The minimum age for owning a driver’s license in Ireland is 17. Most car rental companies will only rent cars to persons 21 and older. People drive on the left side of the road. Ireland uses metric units (kilometers) and Northern Ireland uses imperial units (miles ) for driving-related measurements. Fuel uses the metric system and is bought in litres.

When To Visit

The best time to visit Ireland is in September when the kids have gone back to school and the crowds have calmed down. Restaurants and hotels will be cheaper during this time.
